0.1.0 Available!

Hi folks,

As promised, here is the breakdown of this new version. A big step from the previous version you will see! With a lot of new features, enemies and lore, this version will show more accurately what to expect from the final version.

Here is the full breakdown of the addition.

  • Sorrow Shore - First as the set of world tiles, the Sorrow Shore used to be the last bastion of the Outcasts, a group actively resisting the horrors of the land and the church. True to their ways, any means for survival is good for them. The ruin of the church on this shore used to offer refuge for the lost on the path east and those of the village, now only refuge to the enlightened chosens stranded on its beach. For now it is the only location, but it will transition into the village in future updates.
  • New Boss - Chulainn Second Skin is the chieftain of this Outcast bastion, he will defend it at all cost. He has a simple minded pattern for now, but he will have a makeover in next versions.
  • New Enemies Outcasts -  The outcast now holds in its rank grunt axemen, swift rogue, brute axemen and executioners. Each fighting tooth and nails to ensure their survival and the downfall of the church.
  • New Enemies Wild - Rats and horror bats has always been seen in the woods on the Sorrow Shore, but now more aggressive then ever.
  • Prayer Sites - The land is riddled with ruins of the past. Vestige that can only be renewed with the bright touch of a chosen of the church. They will help you accept the gift from the Divine and will act as anchor to this world for your vessel.
  • Shortcuts -  The walk back to a location is taking a while? Keep your eye out for shortcuts throughout the Sorrow Shore.
  • Saves - What you do no longer acts in the void. What you do matters and is persistant throughout the world. Your progression is now saved and will be persistant between builds if you come back to the game later. A windows build is also available and a linux build will come soon. You can delete your progression in the main menu if wished.
  • Music - Music is now better taken charge of for a better experience. Now quite perfect yet, but it will improve over time!
  • Weather Effects - Rain is implemented, making for a better immersion. It is never disabled for now, but will be on next locations.

Now, It isn't by any mean perfect yet. I am hard at work to make the game as enjoyable as possible all awhile playing for hours searching for bugs. The difficulty is intended to be challenging, not impossible. Any insight on how challenging you felt this version is helps tremendously!

Please report any bugs you may have. Here is a list of a few I already noticed.

  • On load the world tiles aren't seamless. This is because they were first intended to be for lazy loading, I must fix this in next versions.
  • Blocking after rolling doesn't work.
  • Blocking after a heavy attack breaks the static movement.
  • The rats have their sprites too high, or too low, making for visually strange display at times.
  • Some sound effects are missing, repetitive or quite bad. There will be a big makeover at some point.
  • The keybind button doesn't work in the menu, it was intended for this version but doesn't work well yet.
  • On some rare occasions, the attack patterns break and the attack queue is broken. Fixed when rolling or hit.
  • Music transitions between two tracks with intro fades poorly into one another.

Unfortunately this update didn't come in time for the end of January Continue you game jam, But i didn't miss it by much which was my objective. I am still rather happy with the result! Hope you enjoy this new version of Luminara. Please feel free to share feedback on impressions, difficulty, insight on how long it took you to defeat Chulainn.

See you soon with more updates!
